During that time, he led the club to the playoffs in consecutive seasons, earning the Ramon Cobo award from the Spanish Football Federation’s Committee of Coaches. In July 2013, he was appointed as the head coach of Valencia CF’s Mestalla.

A former assistant coach for the USMNT, Estevez was named the head coach of FC Dallas in December 2021. He joined the club from the Columbus Crew and worked with Gregg Berhalter, who coached the USMNT and Columbus Crew SC. During that time, Estevez managed to lead FC Dallas to a post-season berth in 2021. In addition to the USMNT, Estevez also has extensive Major League Soccer experience. Before joining FC Dallas, he worked with the Columbus Crew SC from 2014 to 2017.
